One Instagram account may no longer be enough for younger users. A growing number of Gen Z users maintain separate profiles for different groups, using one account for public posts and another for close friends.
The informal secondary account is often called a Finsta. It provides space for jokes, random thoughts and everyday moments that users may not want to share with classmates, relatives or a wider audience.
This arrangement also reduces the pressure to maintain a perfectly edited feed. Private circles can make posting feel more natural and less like performing for strangers.
The trend reflects a broader change in digital behaviour: users increasingly want control over audiences. Instead of presenting one carefully managed identity to everyone, they are creating smaller online spaces that match different parts of their lives.
