Delhi has emerged as one of India’s leading cities for fashion and beauty shopping, reflecting consumers’ growing interest in premium clothing, international beauty brands and trend-driven styles. A report by Amazon Fashion and Beauty, based on research conducted by Nielsen Media, highlighted the capital’s evolving shopping preferences ahead of the 2023 festive season.
The findings pointed to growing demand for premium fashion, ethnic wear and beauty products, alongside the influence of younger shoppers on online retail trends.
Premium Fashion and Ethnic Wear Gain Popularity
Delhi shoppers showed a strong interest in premium products, including sarees and festive clothing. The report also highlighted demand for ready-to-wear outfits and contemporary ethnic styles, reflecting how consumers are combining traditional fashion with modern designs.
Indo-western clothing, including ethnic co-ord sets, printed ensembles and pre-draped sarees, featured among the styles attracting attention.
Gen Z Brings Global Trends to Indian Fashion
Younger consumers are helping shape online fashion through a mix of international influences and nostalgic styles. The report noted interest in K-pop-inspired outfits, oversized clothing, baggy trousers and blazers, as well as trends drawn from the 1990s and early 2000s.
These preferences demonstrate how social media, entertainment and global pop culture can influence everyday clothing choices.
Beauty Products See Strong Consumer Interest
The report also identified demand for global beauty brands and products such as blush, lipsticks, lip tints, BB creams and multipurpose cosmetics.
Consumers’ interest in these products reflects the growing role of online shopping in discovering beauty brands and keeping up with changing makeup preferences.
Online Shopping Shapes Festive Spending
The research found that 81% of surveyed consumers intended to shop online during the festive season, while one in two said they were willing to increase their spending compared with the previous year.
These findings highlighted the importance of e-commerce platforms during major shopping periods, when consumers look for festive clothing, beauty products, electronics and home essentials.
Fashion Trends Continue to Evolve
Delhi’s shopping preferences illustrate the intersection of traditional Indian fashion, global influences and digital retail. From premium sarees to oversized streetwear and international beauty products, shoppers are embracing a wide range of styles.
The report offers a snapshot of consumer preferences in 2023, rather than a measure of current demand, but it illustrates how online platforms have helped bring diverse fashion and beauty trends to Indian consumers.
