Youth Congress Suspends Over 80 Leaders Following Absence From Delhi Rally

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has initiated disciplinary action against more than 80 office-bearers from different states for reportedly missing the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi.

The decision followed an internal review of participation at the opposition gathering, which focused on electoral irregularities and demands for accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to reports published on November 4, the initial action affected members from Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. More disciplinary measures may follow as the organisation continues reviewing attendance.

Digital Attendance System Used to Track Participation

The Youth Congress leadership had reportedly instructed its national, state and district-level office-bearers to participate in the Delhi rally and the march organised ahead of the gathering.

To monitor attendance, the organisation introduced a digital registration system through its official mobile application, With IYC.

Barcode scanners were also installed at the assembly point on Minto Road to record the participation of members.

According to NDTV, approximately 15,000 people gathered at the location, while only 2,831 registrations were recorded through the application.

Following the event, the organisation reviewed the available attendance information and identified office-bearers who had reportedly failed to follow the instructions.

Madhya Pradesh Records the Highest Number of Suspensions

The initial reports indicated that more than 80 office-bearers had faced suspension.

Around 60 members from Madhya Pradesh were reportedly affected, alongside at least 13 from Himachal Pradesh and approximately 10 from Haryana.

The action in Madhya Pradesh reportedly included district presidents, vice-presidents, general secretaries and secretaries.

The organisation has also sought explanations from members facing disciplinary proceedings, with further notices and suspensions being considered.

Youth Congress Leadership Defends Disciplinary Action

Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib said the organisation had taken the decision to maintain discipline and accountability.

He maintained that members had received clear instructions to attend the rally and that those who failed to follow the directions had been removed from their organisational positions.

The leadership has indicated that responsibilities should be assigned to members who actively participate in party programmes.

Delhi Rally and Its Political Significance

The November 1 INDIA bloc rally brought together opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, to raise concerns about electoral transparency and the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists.

The alliance demanded accountability from the Election Commission and raised objections to alleged irregularities in electoral procedures.

The latest suspensions have added an internal organisational dimension to the political developments surrounding the rally. The Youth Congress’s attendance review and possible further action are likely to remain important matters for the organisation.
