India and Pakistan will renew one of women’s cricket’s most watched rivalries in Dubai on September 5 during the Women’s Asia Cup 2026. India enter the match having already booked a semi-final place with convincing wins over Thailand and Hong Kong, while the previous meeting between the sides remains a key reference point.
At the Women’s T20 World Cup in June, India beat Pakistan by 64 runs at Edgbaston. Smriti Mandhana made 68 from 44 balls as India posted 170 for 6, supported by Harmanpreet Kaur’s 36 and a quick 34 from Richa Ghosh. Pakistan were then bowled out for 106, with Deepti Sharma taking 5 for 10 in a decisive spell.
That result gives India confidence, but it does not decide what happens in Dubai. T20 cricket can turn quickly, and Pakistan’s first task will be to stop India’s top order from controlling the powerplay. If the openers are contained, the pressure can shift towards an Indian middle order that is otherwise capable of scoring rapidly.
Deepti’s all-round ability is another major factor. Pakistan will need plans for Mandhana and the rest of India’s batting group, but they must also limit Deepti’s influence through the middle overs. India’s 193 for 5 and 137-run win over Hong Kong showed that this side can draw match-winning contributions from several players rather than relying on one name.
India have less qualification pressure because their semi-final berth is secure, yet an India-Pakistan game is rarely treated as an ordinary group fixture. The World Cup result gives the contest context; the Asia Cup offers Pakistan the opportunity to write a different result.
