Hyderabad has witnessed another political controversy after Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) alleged that two members of his staff were attacked inside the Saifabad Police Station. The allegation has triggered a political dispute between the BRS and the Telangana government, while police have denied that any assault took place.
The incident reportedly involves KTR’s Public Relations Officer Mahesh Manikya and Personal Assistant Mahender Reddy, who had been called to the police station for questioning in connection with a case related to an incident near the Telangana Assembly.
According to KTR, a group of around 15 people, whom he described as masked individuals, entered the police station and allegedly attempted to attack his aides. He questioned the identities of the people involved and raised concerns over how unidentified individuals could enter a police station during an ongoing inquiry.
KTR also alleged that BRS leaders who arrived at the police station were detained and that the police did not immediately register an FIR regarding the alleged incident. He said the BRS would approach the courts over the matter.
In a social media post, KTR warned that incidents of this nature could escalate into wider law-and-order problems. His comments have added another layer to the ongoing political confrontation between the BRS and the Congress-led Telangana government.

The Telangana Police have presented a different version of events. According to Hyderabad police, no assault took place inside the Saifabad Police Station.Khairatabad Zone DCP K. Shilpavalli said Mahesh and Mahender were at the station for questioning in connection with the Saifabad case. Police stated that some local residents subsequently approached the Station House Officer seeking permission for a DJ programme.
According to the police account, an argument developed after the locals recognised KTR’s aides and questioned why they were inside the station. Police said the situation threatened to escalate, after which a sub-inspector intervened and sent the individuals out of the station. This police version directly contradicts the allegation made by KTR and BRS leaders that masked individuals entered the station and attempted to assault the two aides.
The controversy comes amid heightened tensions between the BRS and the Congress government in Telangana. KTR has accused the state government and police of targeting opposition leaders and workers, while the police have rejected the specific allegation of an assault inside the station.
BRS leaders have demanded an investigation into the incident and have also raised questions about CCTV footage from the police station. Reports said the party sought an independent or judicial probe into the allegations. The incident follows an earlier case in which KTR’s aides were reportedly booked in connection with allegations involving police officers during a BRS protest near the Telangana Assembly. The aides subsequently approached the Telangana High Court seeking relief.
At present, the two sides have offered different accounts of what happened inside the Saifabad Police Station. KTR and BRS leaders allege that an attack was attempted, while police deny that an assault occurred and describe the episode as an argument involving local residents.Further investigation, CCTV footage and any official findings could provide additional clarity about the events at the police station.
The episode has added to the continuing political confrontation in Telangana, with both the BRS and ruling Congress facing scrutiny over law-and-order and political conduct. For now, the central allegation remains disputed, and the available reports do not establish the identity or role of the people KTR alleged were involved.
