Kharge asks Congress MPs to remain in the capital as opposition parties prepare a demonstration over electoral roll concerns
Congress steps up rally preparations
The Congress and its INDIA bloc partners are preparing for a major gathering at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1. The demonstration is part of their campaign over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and concerns about the conduct of the revision process.
Rahul Gandhi appeals to different sections
Rahul Gandhi has invited students, farmers, workers, women, young people and traders to take part in the rally. He has presented the proposed gathering as a public movement rather than an event limited to one political party.
Kharge asks MPs to be in Delhi
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has asked party MPs to remain in the national capital from October 30 to November 1. The direction is intended to ensure the participation of elected representatives as the party coordinates its preparations with other opposition groups and state units.
Symbolic programme against the CEC
The rally forms part of a wider campaign targeting the Election Commission’s handling of electoral roll revisions. On October 30, opposition leaders planned a public impeachment-style programme against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Kharge’s residence. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar was expected to chair the symbolic proceedings, with Kharge and Rahul Gandhi assigned prominent roles.
Electoral roll revision remains the central issue
Congress and its allies have alleged that the Special Intensive Revision has resulted in irregularities, including wrongful deletion of eligible voters. The Election Commission’s role has consequently become a central point of political debate. The opposition says the November 1 gathering will provide a platform to press for transparency and accountability.
