Jasprit Bumrah Sets New T20I Record with Maiden Over as India Seal Series Against Afghanistan.

Jasprit Bumrah etched his name further into the T20I record books by bowling a flawless maiden over against Afghanistan in the second T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Opening the bowling, Bumrah conceded zero runs from six legal deliveries to Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran, completing his 13th maiden over in T20 Internationals. This took him past Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava (12) and gave him the most maiden overs among bowlers from Full Member nations.

The milestone underlines Bumrah’s exceptional control and economy in the shortest format, where maidens have become increasingly rare. It was also his first T20I maiden since June 2024 (also against Afghanistan).

India Seal the Series

Bumrah’s disciplined start set the tone for a clinical Indian performance. Afghanistan were restricted to 159/8. Nitish Kumar Reddy was the standout bowler with career-best figures of 3/24, while Arshdeep Singh claimed 2/35. Bumrah finished with 1/25 from his four overs.

Chasing 160, India made light work of the target, reaching 163/3 in just 14.5 overs to win by seven wickets. Sanju Samson scored a rapid 57, and Abhishek Sharma contributed 39 as the openers put on a dominant partnership.

With this victory, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, sealing it with one game still to play (scheduled for 17 September at the same venue).

Bumrah’s return from injury continues to strengthen India’s bowling attack, and this latest landmark adds another chapter to his already remarkable T20I career.
