Karnataka Congress Expels Kripa Alva for Six Years Amid Sting Video Controversy

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has expelled former general secretary Kripa Alva from the party for six years over her alleged connection to a controversial sting operation involving Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The disciplinary order, issued by KPCC vice-president M. Narayanaswamy on October 31, cited alleged anti-party activities and said the controversy had caused embarrassment and negative publicity for the organisation. The allegations surrounding Alva’s role remain part of an ongoing investigation.

Party Says Notice Went Unanswered

The KPCC stated that Alva had previously received a show-cause notice seeking her explanation over the alleged link to the video operation. According to the party’s order, she did not submit a response before the disciplinary decision was made.

The party characterised the alleged conduct as anti-party activity and announced the six-year expulsion.

Siddaramaiah Sought an Investigation

The controversy escalated after Siddaramaiah questioned the origin of a video containing allegations against him. He named Alva in connection with the alleged operation and called for an investigation into those responsible for producing and circulating the recording.

Siddaramaiah has maintained that the video was fabricated. He has also obtained a court order restraining media organisations from publishing or broadcasting it, according to the source material.

Police Probe Continues

Bengaluru Police said preliminary findings did not support the narrative depicted in the video. Investigators described it as fabricated, adding that statements recorded and evidence gathered so far did not establish the incident shown.

Police have reportedly traced and seized a mobile phone allegedly used to record the video. The device has been sent for forensic examination, while investigators continue to examine how the recording was created and circulated online.

The Congress disciplinary action is a significant development in the case, but questions about the video’s origin and Alva’s alleged involvement remain subject to the continuing police investigation. Forensic findings are awaited.
