Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra has caught social media attention with a witty response to a fan who predicted he had only 20 years left to live. The unusual exchange began with a request for a powerful V8 engine in the Mahindra Scorpio and turned into a humorous conversation about the industrialist’s lifespan.
Fan Requests a 500-Horsepower Scorpio
The conversation began when X user Pranesh Naidu, who described himself as a longtime fan of Mahindra, suggested that the company develop a high-performance Scorpio equipped with a V8 or V10 engine.
Naidu imagined a Scorpio with a small-block V8 capable of producing 500 horsepower. While making the suggestion, he remarked that Mahindra might not be around in another 20 years and should build such an engine before then.
Anand Mahindra Responds With Humour
Mahindra acknowledged the fan’s support but joked about the certainty of his lifespan prediction.
In his reply, he said he was surprised by the confidence with which the fan had given him a “20-year expiry date”. He added that although another 20 years would be a respectable innings, he hoped to remain on the planet a little longer.
He then brought the conversation back to the engine suggestion with a playful request: could the fan persuade him to extend his “warranty” before they discussed V8 engines?
The automotive warranty reference made the response particularly fitting, and the exchange attracted attention online.
Debate Over Mahindra’s Engine Strategy
The exchange followed a separate discussion about the company’s engineering decisions. Mahindra had recently faced criticism from another X user over its lack of V6 and V8 engines and plug-in hybrid offerings.
Responding to the criticism, Mahindra referred to a diesel-electric hybrid passenger vehicle based on the Scorpio platform that the company unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo in 2006. He said it was not commercialised because the market was not ready for it at the time.
He also questioned whether India needed more fuel-consuming vehicles, arguing that innovation can sometimes involve choosing not to build a particular product.
Will Mahindra Build a V8 Scorpio?
The fan’s suggestion has renewed discussion about whether Mahindra could develop a high-performance Scorpio with a V8 engine. However, Mahindra’s humorous response did not confirm any such plan.
For now, the exchange remains a lighthearted social media moment that combines a fan’s ambitious automotive idea with the industrialist’s trademark wordplay.
