Nagoya, September 19, 2026 – India’s teqball campaign at the Asian Games 2026 has produced an early highlight, with Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza emerging as a strong contender for a historic medal in the sport’s debut at the continental Games.
Teqball, a dynamic combination of football and table tennis played on a curved table, is being contested as a medal event for the first time at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Quimcy Dsouza’s Impressive Run
The 24-year-old from Mumbai, ranked world No. 24, began her women’s singles campaign by topping Group A. She staged a comeback to defeat Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto 2-1 (10-12, 12-11, 13-11) and followed it with a straight-sets win over Cambodia’s Koemyean Dy (12-9, 12-7). The results earned her a direct berth in the semi-finals.
On Saturday, Dsouza faced Indonesia’s Sumaya (Ima Sumaya) in the last four. She took the opening set 12-7 but lost the next two (9-12, 7-12) and went down 1-2.
Despite the semi-final defeat, her medal hopes remain alive. She will compete in the bronze-medal match on Sunday. A victory would secure India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in teqball.
