Kharge and Rahul Gandhi Assure Punjab Families of Support During Sangrur Visit

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi met families affected by violence and drug addiction during the party’s Insaaf Rally in Sangrur, Punjab, on November 4, 2026.

The interaction provided an opportunity for affected families to share their experiences and seek assistance. Both Congress leaders listened to their concerns and assured them that the party would continue supporting their efforts to obtain justice and necessary help.

Families Seek Justice in Murder Cases

During the meeting, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi interacted with the families of Sukhwinder Singh Kalkatta, Gurmel Singh Toot and Parkash Chand of Bathinda.

The relatives of Sukhwinder Singh Kalkatta and Gurmel Singh Toot called for fair and transparent investigations into the killings of their family members. They also demanded strict action against those responsible.

Kalkatta was shot dead in Sehna village in Barnala district in October 2025. Gurmel Singh Toot, a Congress leader and former sarpanch, was killed in Patti, Tarn Taran district, in September 2025.

The families expressed concerns about securing justice and urged the authorities to ensure that the investigations reach their proper conclusion.

Kharge and Gandhi assured them that their demands would be raised and that the Congress would stand with them.

Drug Addiction Creates Financial Difficulties

The Congress leaders also met the family of Parkash Chand from Bathinda, which explained the financial and personal difficulties caused by a family member’s drug addiction.

According to the report, the situation has placed considerable economic pressure on the household.

The family requested assistance for rehabilitation, financial support and the education of its daughters.

The interaction highlighted how substance addiction can affect not only individuals but also the financial stability and future opportunities of entire families.

Insaaf Rally Highlights Punjab’s Concerns

The meetings took place alongside the Congress party’s larger Insaaf Rally in Sangrur. The gathering focused on issues including public safety, law and order, drug addiction and justice for affected families.

By meeting people directly, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi brought individual experiences into the party’s broader political campaign.

The development also reflects the importance of these issues in Punjab’s political discussion as parties prepare for the 2027 Assembly elections.
