The much-awaited M.S. Subbulakshmi biopic has officially begun its journey. Rashmika Mandanna will portray the legendary Carnatic singer in the upcoming film titled “M.S – A Legacy On Screen.”
The film was launched in Chennai on September 16, 2026, coinciding with M.S. Subbulakshmi’s 110th birth anniversary. Veteran actor Kamal Haasan attended the event and gave the ceremonial first clap for the film’s first shot featuring Rashmika.
Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the biopic aims to bring the extraordinary life and musical legacy of M.S. Subbulakshmi to a new generation. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music for the project.
Earlier reports had mentioned Sai Pallavi in connection with the role, but the makers have now officially confirmed Rashmika Mandanna as the lead.
Kamal Haasan also spoke about the responsibility of portraying such an iconic personality, while Rashmika expressed her gratitude and said she would give her best to the role

M.S. Subbulakshmi remains one of the most celebrated figures in Indian classical music. Her contribution to Carnatic music and her international recognition have made her life story a significant subject for a cinematic adaptation.
The film is expected to explore the singer’s musical journey, personal life, struggles, achievements and lasting cultural legacy. With a major star cast and a prominent director behind the project, the biopic is already attracting considerable attention from South Indian cinema audiences.
