Actor Rashmika Mandanna has addressed online trolling over her South Indian accent in Hindi films, saying she does not want criticism to limit her career or her choice of roles. Speaking on Koffee With Karan Season 9 alongside her husband, actor Vijay Deverakonda, she explained why she remains proud of her linguistic and cultural identity.
‘I Am From South India’
Rashmika said she has faced criticism throughout her career over her acting, language and accent. However, she has never wanted these comments to stop her from exploring opportunities across different film industries.
Responding to remarks about her Hindi accent, she said it was unreasonable to expect her to speak without an accent when she comes from South India. She believes that working across languages should not require an actor to hide their roots.
Rashmika Takes Pride in Dubbing Her Own Films
The actor also discussed the effort involved in performing and dubbing in multiple languages. She revealed that she gives her directors the option of choosing another dubbing artist if they feel it suits a character better.
However, her directors have preferred that she dub for herself. Rashmika said she takes pride in being able to perform in different languages, describing the process as demanding but rewarding.
Why She Chooses Different Roles
Rashmika also spoke about her interest in playing contrasting characters. She pointed to the difference between her roles in Animal and The Girlfriend, saying that exploring varied characters gives her satisfaction as an actor.
Her appearance on the show highlighted her determination to work across industries and languages without allowing online criticism to define her professional choices.
The actor’s comments have renewed discussion about regional accents, language expectations and the challenges performers face when working in different parts of Indian cinema.
