A Delhi-based makeup artist has become a talking point online after revealing that she earned ₹4.5 lakh in one week through bridal and party makeup bookings. But behind the viral number is a story of years of learning, financial investment and building a career from scratch.
Momina, 25, shared details of her busy week on Instagram, where the video crossed a million views and triggered widespread reactions about careers, education and financial independence.
How Her Makeup Career Began
Momina entered the professional makeup industry in 2021 after completing Class 12. She has spoken openly about struggling academically and failing school twice.
Instead of viewing that experience as the end of her career journey, she enrolled in a professional makeup course that cost around ₹2 lakh. She initially worked on editorial shoots, advertisements and other projects while trying to establish herself.
From Low-Paid Work to Bridal Makeup
Her early assignments were not highly lucrative. Momina said she eventually realised that bridal makeup offered a more sustainable direction for her skills.
Without an established industry network, she worked on low-cost party makeup assignments and contacted influencers and celebrities through Instagram. Collaborations helped her build a portfolio and eventually attract bridal clients.
She also reinvested her earnings into professional products, equipment and other elements of her makeup setup.
What Was Behind the ₹4.5 Lakh Week?
The viral figure came from a particularly busy week filled with multiple bookings in Delhi and Kasauli.
According to Momina, the schedule included bridal and party makeup, three looks for a Singapore-based client, a wedding booking and a family booking worth ₹2.2 lakh. Another bridal appointment over the weekend brought the total for the week to approximately ₹4.5 lakh.
However, the amount represents one exceptionally busy week rather than a fixed weekly income.
The Glamorous Job Has a Difficult Side
Social media often shows the finished bridal looks, but makeup artistry can involve long working hours and demanding travel.
Momina said she sometimes carries a 15–20 kg vanity kit, works for as long as 15 hours and begins certain bookings as early as 4 am. Cleaning hundreds of brushes and travelling between venues are also part of the profession.
She also pointed out that wedding bookings are seasonal, meaning makeup artists can face considerably quieter periods during the year.
Building a Career One Booking at a Time
Momina says she continues to invest in her professional setup, spending more than ₹1.5 lakh annually on products, lighting, lenses, lashes and other equipment.
Her approach reflects a broader reality of independent creative careers: income can depend on reputation, portfolio, networking, repeat clients and the ability to reinvest in the business.
More Than a Viral Earnings Story
The ₹4.5 lakh figure may have attracted the initial attention, but Momina’s journey illustrates the less visible side of building a beauty career.
From struggling academically to completing professional training, taking low-paying assignments and gradually moving into bridal work, her experience shows how social-media success can represent years of work that rarely appear in a short viral video.
For Momina, makeup is not simply about earnings. She has also described the profession as a way to build financial independence while helping clients feel confident during important moments in their lives.
