Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Flydubai Captain Smit Machchhaar, who was injured during a reported cockpit attack aboard Flight FZ1073 while travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
Captain Machchhaar, who was receiving treatment in hospital, shared details of the frightening incident during his conversation with the Prime Minister. Reports said the Indian pilot was attacked by his co-pilot inside the cockpit during the flight.
Despite sustaining injuries, Machchhaar managed to help open the cockpit door, after which passengers and crew members intervened and overpowered the alleged attacker. The incident raised serious concerns over aviation security and the safety of passengers and crew on board.
The conversation between PM Modi and Captain Machchhaar highlighted the seriousness of the incident and the pilot’s account of the events inside the cockpit. The investigation into the circumstances and motive behind the attack is continuing.
The incident took place on Flydubai Flight FZ1073, which was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30. According to reports, the aircraft was carrying 174 people when the co-pilot allegedly attacked Machchhaar inside the cockpit. The aircraft subsequently entered a steep descent, creating a critical emergency in mid-air.

Machchhaar told Prime Minister Modi that he had suffered multiple injuries and had fallen to the cockpit floor during the struggle. Even while injured, he realised that the aircraft was in danger and that immediate action was necessary. He eventually managed to reach and open the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew members to enter and intervene.
The opening of the cockpit door proved to be a crucial moment in the emergency. Passengers and crew were able to confront the attacker, while other pilots assisted in regaining control of the aircraft. The flight was subsequently diverted and landed safely at Tabuk in northwestern Saudi Arabia.
During the conversation, Machchhaar described the immense pressure he faced as the aircraft was descending. He said he was fighting for his own life but was also conscious that the lives of everyone on board were at stake. His account has drawn widespread attention to the actions taken inside the cockpit during the emergency.
Prime Minister Modi praised Machchhaar for his courage, presence of mind and quick response during the crisis. Modi also wished the injured pilot a speedy recovery. The Prime Minister’s conversation with Machchhaar came as authorities continued examining the circumstances surrounding the cockpit attack and the actions of the co-pilot.
Machchhaar was initially treated in Saudi Arabia before being transferred to Abu Dhabi for further medical care. Reports say he is recovering in hospital. The incident has also prompted investigations by relevant authorities into the motive behind the attack and the sequence of events aboard the aircraft.
The Flydubai incident has placed renewed attention on cockpit security and emergency procedures in commercial aviation. Machchhaar’s account to PM Modi provides a detailed first-person description of how the situation unfolded and how passengers, crew and additional pilots ultimately helped bring the aircraft to safety.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on establishing the precise circumstances of the attack, the co-pilot’s actions and the sequence that led to the emergency landing. Meanwhile, Captain Smit Machchhaar continues to recover in Abu Dhabi following the serious injuries sustained during the incident.
