India entered another busy day at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya with athletes competing across several sports, including cricket, athletics, shooting, boxing, hockey, squash and archery.
After a seven-medal haul on the previous day, India started September 28 with 37 medals — four gold, 16 silver and 17 bronze.
India Enter Cricket Semifinals
India’s men’s cricket team secured a place in the semifinals after its quarterfinal against Afghanistan was abandoned because of rain.
With no play possible, India advanced on the basis of its superior ICC T20I ranking. The result keeps India’s gold-medal defence on track at the continental event.
Lovlina Borgohain Assures Boxing Medal
Boxer Lovlina Borgohain added to India’s medal prospects by reaching the women’s 75kg semifinals.
Her progress guarantees India another medal in the boxing competition and strengthens the country’s presence in the combat-sports events.
Shooting Campaign Faces Mixed Results
India’s shooting contingent was also in action, with Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Rahi Sarnobat competing in the women’s 25m pistol event.
Bhaker finished outside the individual final, while Esha Singh went on to secure a silver medal after a shoot-off. The Indian women’s team also finished fifth in the team competition.
Athletics Remains a Major Medal Opportunity
Several Indian athletes were scheduled for medal events, including Avinash Sable, Murali Sreeshankar, Parul Chaudhary and Rohit Yadav.
Athletics has already contributed significantly to India’s medal tally at these Games, although the gold-medal count in the sport remained limited entering the day’s finals.
Hockey and Other Sports Add to the Action
India’s men’s hockey team was scheduled to face Bangladesh in its Pool A match, while Indian athletes were also competing in archery, squash, volleyball, sailing, surfing, tennis and other disciplines.
The women’s hockey team had already secured a semifinal place after completing the pool stage unbeaten with a 7-0 victory over Singapore. India will face Korea in the last four.
