The JD(S) leader has called for an impartial investigation, while allegations about the video’s origin and possible political links remain unproven.
BENGALURU The controversy surrounding a purported sting-operation video involving former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has widened into a dispute over the conduct of the investigation, the treatment of political workers and trust within the state’s Congress leadership. Union Minister and JD(S) leader H. D. Kumaraswamy has questioned how the case is being handled and called for an impartial inquiry.
Siddaramaiah has denied the allegations associated with the video, describing the material as fabricated and intended to damage his reputation. He has filed a police complaint and sought legal restrictions on circulation of the footage. The authenticity of the video and the claims linked to it have not been conclusively established.
Yathindra Siddaramaiah has raised concerns about possible involvement by people associated with Congress. The source material says Siddaramaiah has named Congress worker Krupa Alva and Power TV owner Rakesh Shetty in connection with the alleged operation. Those claims have not been proven, and investigators will need to establish how the footage was produced, who distributed it and whether any law was broken.
Kumaraswamy previously protested outside the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner’s office, demanding that investigators question him directly rather than target JD(S) workers. He alleged that party workers were being treated unfairly and called for a neutral investigation. He later urged his party’s social-media and organisational workers to cooperate if summoned by investigators.
The investigation has become a source of tension between the ruling Congress and opposition figures. Kumaraswamy has suggested the episode may be connected to differences between Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar. The material provided does not establish evidence that Shivakumar orchestrated the alleged operation, and such claims should remain attributed.
The case involves several separate questions: the origin and authenticity of the video, the circumstances of its publication, and whether any individual acted unlawfully. Political statements alone cannot resolve those questions. Investigators’ findings and due process will be essential to determine responsibility.
