Punjab Congress Signals Unity Ahead of 2027 Polls, Announces Rahul Gandhi Rally in Sangrur

Meetings led by K. C. Venugopal and Sachin Pilot focus on organisational coordination, while the November 4 event is expected to launch a broader campaign.

CHANDIGARH  The Punjab Congress has stepped up preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections, with senior leaders K. C. Venugopal and Sachin Pilot emphasising coordination after meetings with state party representatives. The party has also announced that Rahul Gandhi will address a public rally in Sangrur on November 4.

Venugopal, the All India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of organisation, met elected representatives, MPs, former legislators, district Congress committee presidents and other senior functionaries. The discussions focused on election planning, local feedback and ways to improve coordination across the party.

Speaking after the meetings on October 26, Venugopal expressed confidence in the party’s prospects and said leaders would work towards a common objective. Pilot, who oversees Congress affairs in Punjab, described the discussions as open and said plans had been considered for local and state-level organisational units.

Rahul Gandhi’s November 4 rally, described by Congress leaders as a ‘Hisab Maango’ event, is expected to serve as an early platform for the party’s campaign. Sangrur and the wider Malwa region are important areas in Punjab’s electoral landscape, making the location significant for the party’s outreach.

Congress leaders have criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over law and order, unemployment and drug-related problems. These criticisms reflect the opposition’s position and remain part of the political contest over the state government’s record.

The recent meetings suggest that Congress is seeking to align senior leaders, elected representatives and grassroots workers before campaign activity intensifies. The party will need to translate these discussions into clear responsibilities and consistent messaging across districts.
