The BJP’s Ballari Chalo padayatra has become a prominent opposition campaign in Karnataka, with state president B.Y. Vijayendra using the march to criticise the Congress government’s welfare delivery and rural policy. The 10-day yatra began in Lingasugur on September 1 and is travelling about 175 km towards Ballari.
At Karatagi in Koppal district, Vijayendra questioned the implementation of the state’s five guarantees and alleged delays involving pensions, housing, drinking water, electricity and the Ganga Kalyana scheme. The party has also raised farmers’ input costs, irrigation, labour shortages and crop prices. Although the 2028 Assembly election is still some distance away, the yatra is clearly designed to expand the BJP’s organisation and test whether its criticism can generate broader public momentum.
