INDIA Bloc Moves CEC Protest to October 31 as Delhi Rally Preparations Continue

The INDIA bloc has shifted its symbolic public proceedings against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar by one day, moving the programme from October 30 to October 31 after heavy rain in New Delhi. Opposition leaders said the change would help senior participants and other representatives attend without difficulty.

The programme forms part of the alliance’s campaign over alleged electoral irregularities and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. Opposition parties have questioned the Election Commission’s handling of electoral-roll changes and raised concerns about the deletion of voters’ names.

Meira Kumar Expected to Lead the Proceedings

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is expected to preside over the symbolic proceedings at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence at 10, Rajaji Marg. Kharge is scheduled to open the programme, while Rahul Gandhi is expected to deliver the concluding remarks. Representatives of INDIA bloc parties and civil society groups are also expected to attend.

Rahul Gandhi said the postponement was a collective decision prompted by the weather and the need to avoid inconvenience to senior participants. He reiterated the opposition’s stated aim of defending democratic institutions and citizens’ voting rights. Gandhi also alleged that supporters travelling to Delhi from different states were facing attempts to obstruct their participation.

November 1 Rally at Ramlila Maidan

The symbolic programme is expected to be followed by a larger INDIA bloc gathering at Ramlila Maidan on November 1. The alliance has planned a march from the Minto Road area towards the venue, bringing together political workers, civil society representatives and citizens.

The opposition’s concerns over SIR and alleged voter deletions remain disputed political issues. The Election Commission’s revision exercise has become a central point of disagreement between the ruling party and opposition groups. The two-day programme is expected to keep electoral transparency and voter rights at the centre of the political debate.
