Sara Ali Khan Turns Heads in Gaurav Gupta’s Sculpted Mogra Saree-Gown

A Modern Take on Indian Couture

Sara Ali Khan has brought a fresh interpretation to Indian couture in a sculpted ivory tulle saree-gown by designer Gaurav Gupta. The actor wore the creation for the designer’s The Bride Side campaign, blending traditional floral inspiration with a contemporary silhouette.

The ensemble, titled Emergence, is part of Gupta’s Spring/Summer 2026 couture collection, The Divine Androgyne, showcased during Paris Couture Week.

Mogra Flowers Take Centre Stage

The standout feature is the hand-embroidered mogra detailing that forms an unconventional pallu. Inspired by the jasmine flower’s associations with devotion and Indian traditions, the floral tassels lend the outfit a distinctive cultural touch.

Rather than using mogra merely as a hair accessory or garland, the design incorporates its delicate appearance directly into the garment.

Sculpted Silhouette Meets Soft Draping

The saree-gown combines a structured, corset-inspired bodice with flowing draped panels. Sheer tulle, a long train and a thigh-high slit add movement and a contemporary edge to the traditional saree-inspired design.

The contrast between architectural shaping and soft fabric reflects Gaurav Gupta’s signature approach to couture.

Minimal Styling Completes the Look

Sara kept her accessories understated, allowing the intricate outfit to remain the focus. She paired it with a delicate silver bracelet and white embellished heels.

Her hair was styled in a relaxed updo with loose strands framing her face, while kohl-lined eyes, pink-toned makeup and a dewy finish complemented the ivory ensemble.

Indian Tradition in Contemporary Fashion

Mogra has a longstanding place in Indian cultural and religious traditions, from temple offerings to wedding garlands and festive hair adornments. By translating this familiar flower into couture embroidery, Gupta connects cultural symbolism with experimental fashion.

Sara’s look demonstrates how designers can reinterpret traditional Indian elements through modern construction, making heritage a source of inspiration for contemporary occasion wear.
