India’s Net Direct Tax Collections Rise Nearly 13% to ₹12.12 Lakh Crore Till September 17

New Delhi, September 19, 2026 – India’s net direct tax collections rose nearly 13% year-on-year to ₹12.12 lakh crore as of September 17 in the current financial year (FY 2026-27), according to provisional data released by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

The figure marks a 12.96% increase from ₹10.73 lakh crore collected during the corresponding period of the previous year. This represents about 45% of the full-year direct tax collection target of ₹26.97 lakh crore.

Refunds issued by the government jumped 29.19% to ₹2.20 lakh crore, partially offsetting the gross growth.

Corporate tax remained a strong performer, with net collections up 19.48% to ₹5.56 lakh crore.

Non-corporate tax (primarily from individuals and Hindu Undivided Families) grew at a more moderate 6% to ₹6.16 lakh crore.

Securities Transaction Tax (STT) surged 53% to ₹40,214 crore, boosted in part by higher rates on certain derivatives transactions introduced earlier in the year.

Advance tax collections rose 16.18% to about ₹5.22 lakh crore, with corporate advance tax up around 18% to ₹4.16 lakh crore.
