Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has launched a sharp political attack on the Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), describing leaders of both parties as “drama artists.” His remarks come amid continuing political confrontation in Telangana, particularly over Assembly proceedings, protests and allegations of corruption.
According to reports, Bandi Sanjay questioned the approach of both Congress and BRS leaders and alleged that political parties were spending considerable time on accusations and counter-accusations instead of focusing on public issues. He also questioned why action had not been taken against BRS leaders facing allegations of corruption. These were his political allegations, rather than established findings against the individuals concerned.
The BJP leader’s comments come at a time when relations between the Congress government and the BRS Opposition remain tense. The recent Telangana Assembly session witnessed repeated confrontations between the two sides. Twenty-one BRS MLAs were suspended for the remainder of the Monsoon Session following disruptions in the House.
The dispute has also extended beyond the Assembly. On September 7, BRS legislators attempted to enter the Assembly wearing black T-shirts carrying protest messages. Police stopped several legislators, including K. T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao, leading to a confrontation outside the Assembly premises. BRS leaders accused the police of high-handedness, while police officials said the objection was related to the slogans displayed on the T-shirts.
Following their suspension, BRS legislators organised a mock Assembly at Telangana Bhavan on September 12. The symbolic proceedings were used by the party to raise issues including election promises, governance and policies of the Congress government.
Bandi Sanjay’s latest remarks add another dimension to the ongoing political exchange between the three major political forces in Telangana — the BJP, Congress and BRS. His criticism suggests that the BJP is seeking to position itself as a separate political voice while attacking both the ruling party and the principal Opposition.
The Telangana political landscape has recently been marked by disputes over Assembly conduct, election promises, alleged corruption and protests. With competing parties continuing to make strong public statements, the political debate is expected to remain active in the coming days.
For readers, Bandi Sanjay’s “drama artists” remark should be understood as a political criticism made by the BJP leader, while responses from Congress and BRS leaders may provide a different interpretation of the ongoing disputes.
