Not All Carbohydrates Are the Same
Sugary drinks and heavily processed snacks differ from oats, fruits, potatoes, whole grains and legumes. Fibre-rich foods can also make meals more filling.
Potatoes Are Not Automatically the Problem
Plain boiled or baked potatoes can provide a filling food with relatively modest calories. Deep frying and rich toppings can change the overall meal substantially.
Rice and Roti Can Remain on the Plate
For many Indian diets, removing rice or roti is unnecessary. Portions and the accompanying vegetables, protein and fats are more important than labelling these foods as forbidden.
Oats and Fruit Can Fit Too
Oats provide carbohydrates and fibre, while whole fruit supplies water and nutrients. Whole fruit is generally a better everyday choice than sugary fruit drinks or desserts.
Look at the Complete Meal
Oil, butter, sugar, creamy sauces and oversized portions can increase total calories. The overall plate matters more than blaming one ingredient.
The Main Requirement Is Balance
A sensible carbohydrate portion, protein, vegetables, healthy fats and enough fibre can support a sustainable calorie deficit without making the diet unnecessarily restrictive.
