The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a major restructuring of its national organisation under party president Nitin Nabin, bringing several experienced leaders back into prominent positions while introducing a large number of new faces.
The new team, announced on August 17, includes former Union minister Smriti Irani as a national general secretary and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje as a national vice-president. Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has also been given a senior organisational responsibility.
Smriti Irani Returns to BJP’s National Leadership
Smriti Irani’s appointment as national general secretary marks her return to the BJP’s top organisational structure after her exit from the Union Cabinet in 2024.
Her new role comes as the party prepares for a series of political challenges and upcoming Assembly elections. Irani, who previously represented Amethi in the Lok Sabha, had been one of the BJP’s prominent national campaigners.
Vasundhara Raje and Ram Madhav Among Vice-Presidents
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has been appointed a national vice-president, alongside former BJP general secretary Ram Madhav.
The new structure includes 13 national vice-presidents, with six women among them. The broader leadership team also brings together several senior figures from different regions and political backgrounds.
Biplab Deb Gets National Role
Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has been included among the party’s national general secretaries. Odisha BJP leader Sambit Patra has also been assigned responsibility as coordinator for the northeastern region.
The appointments indicate an effort to combine experienced political leaders with organisational figures as the BJP strengthens its national structure.
Amit Malviya Replaced as IT Cell Chief
One of the most notable changes is in the BJP’s digital organisation. Amit Malviya, who had headed the party’s IT Cell for about 11 years, has been replaced by Deepak Mhaskey of Chhattisgarh.
Anil Baluni will continue as the party’s media in-charge, providing continuity in its media operations.
Large-Scale Organisational Revamp
The BJP’s new national team contains 65 office-bearers, with 51 of the names being new to the team. The reshuffle also includes younger leaders and representatives from different social and regional backgrounds.
Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer, while Sandeep Pathak, K. Surendran and Anil Antony are among those given national secretary responsibilities.
