Congress Takes ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ Campaign to Mangaluru

Party leaders highlight alleged voter-list discrepancies while calling for attention to electoral rights

MANGALURU, Karnataka – The Congress has taken its ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ campaign to Mangaluru, putting alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the deletion of voter names at the centre of its outreach.

Claims about voter records On October 25, All India Congress Committee working committee member Kamaleshwar Patel said the campaign was intended to protect voting rights and constitutional principles. He cited a party analysis of Karnataka’s Mahadevapura Assembly constituency that alleged 11,956 duplicate names, 40,009 addresses considered unauthentic and 10,452 registrations linked to a single address.

Figures require scrutiny Congress leaders also raised questions about voter-list changes in Maharashtra, Haryana and West Bengal. The figures are claims presented by the party; they do not by themselves prove electoral fraud. Their meaning and implications require verification against official records and any relevant findings.

Local participation Karnataka MLC Manjunath Bhandary described the campaign as an effort to safeguard democratic rights. Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee president Padmaraj R. Poojary said party workers were conducting awareness activities across the district.

Part of a wider campaign Congress launched the nationwide initiative on October 10 under party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The campaign is scheduled to continue until November 26, with a major rally planned at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on November 1. The Mangaluru programme forms part of the party’s wider effort to mobilise supporters and seek action on its electoral-roll concerns.
