Egyptian Shopkeeper Saves Child in Dramatic Balcony Rescue Caught on Camera

A split-second rescue in Egypt has captured global attention after a shopkeeper caught a young boy who fell from a second-floor balcony in Giza.

The dramatic incident, recorded by a CCTV camera, shows Ahmed Ragab rushing towards the child after noticing him falling from a nearby building. The boy, around four to five years old, briefly became tangled in a washing line, slowing his fall and giving Ragab crucial time to react.

Shopkeeper Reacts Instantly

Ragab, who works at his father’s shop in the Ard El-Lewa area, reportedly heard screams and looked towards the building. Within seconds, he ran underneath the falling child and managed to catch him before he hit the ground.

The footage shows Ragab holding the child safely after the catch before appearing visibly shaken by what had just happened.

‘No Time To Think’

Ragab later said he did not have time to calculate the risks. His only thought was to prevent the child from hitting the ground. He said he only fully realised the seriousness of the incident after the boy was safe.

The shopkeeper also suggested that the exact timing of the rescue was difficult to explain and that he could not be certain he would be able to repeat the same reaction.

Video Goes Viral

The CCTV footage has since spread widely across social media, with viewers praising Ragab for his quick response and presence of mind.

The incident has also renewed attention on child safety around balconies and windows, with Ragab urging parents to keep young children under close supervision.

For many viewers, the footage offered a remarkable example of how a few seconds—and one person’s instinctive reaction can make a life-changing difference.
