Google Photos is expanding its editing and AI capabilities with a new collection of features designed to make managing and transforming photos easier. The latest update introduces tools for hiding sensitive information, applying creative visual styles, organising clothing digitally and creating customised photo edits.
Redact Tool Helps Hide Sensitive Information
One of the practical additions is the upgraded Markup tool, which now includes a Redact pen. It allows users to blur or pixelate sensitive information appearing in screenshots and photos.
Users can also adjust the thickness of the editing tool, making it easier to cover specific areas accurately. Google has started rolling out the upgraded Markup experience globally on Android.
Moods Bring Vintage Styles to Photos
Google Photos is also introducing Moods, an AI-assisted editing feature that gives pictures different nostalgic and vintage-inspired appearances.
The available styles include looks inspired by 35mm film, 2000s digital cameras and other retro aesthetics. Users can adjust the intensity of these effects to customise the final appearance of their images. Moods is rolling out globally on Android.
AI Wardrobe Creates a Digital Closet
Another interesting addition is Wardrobe, which uses AI to identify clothing items in users’ photos and organise them into a digital collection.
The feature can help users mix and match clothing pieces and experiment with different outfit combinations without physically trying everything on. Google says Wardrobe is now available to eligible Android and iOS users in the US, India and Brazil.
More Remix Templates Added
Google Photos is also expanding its Remix feature with 15 new templates. These can transform ordinary pictures into creative formats such as red-carpet-inspired images, birthday cards and photo-booth-style creations.
The Remix templates are available on Android and iOS in selected countries and are restricted to users aged 18 and above.
Gemini Brings More AI Assistance
Google is also highlighting the integration of Photos with Gemini Spark. Eligible users can use a prompt to help select, brighten and share suitable photos, making some photo-management tasks more conversational. This feature is currently limited to eligible Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US.
A More AI-Focused Google Photos
With these additions, Google Photos is moving beyond traditional photo storage and editing. The combination of AI-based organisation, creative effects and practical editing tools gives users more ways to work with their photo libraries.
The availability of individual features varies by device, country and subscription, so users may not see every new option immediately.
