TGNPDCL Bags Two National Awards for AI and Governance Excellence

The Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGNPDCL) has received two national-level awards, recognising its use of advanced technology in power distribution and its efforts toward improved consumer services and operational performance. The awards were presented in Bengaluru this week.

TGNPDCL received the “Adopting AI in Energy Award” and the “South India PSU & Governance Excellence Award.” The recognition highlights the organisation’s initiatives involving artificial intelligence, drone technology, data analytics and digital systems in the electricity distribution sector.

According to TGNPDCL officials, the company has been using AI-based systems to improve the monitoring and management of its electricity network. One of the key initiatives is an AI-based Feeder Outage Prediction Model, designed to help identify potential feeder-related problems.

Other technology initiatives cited by the company include drone-based monitoring of electrical assets, a Real-Time Feeder Management System, GIS-based monitoring, substation loading analytics and AI-enabled assistance systems. TGNPDCL also operates a 24/7 AI-enabled WhatsApp chatbot aimed at improving consumer interaction and access to services.

The South India PSU & Governance Excellence Award recognises TGNPDCL’s technology adoption, operational initiatives and focus on consumer-oriented services. The company has also highlighted work involving network infrastructure expansion, interlinking of lines, disaster preparedness, covered conductor works, safety initiatives and promotion of solar energy. The governance award was received on behalf of TGNPDCL by Company Secretary K. Venkatesham, while Chief Engineer Surender received the Adopting AI in Energy Award on behalf of the organisation.

The latest recognition comes as electricity distribution companies increasingly explore digital technologies to improve reliability, network visibility and customer services. AI and data analytics can support areas such as outage prediction, equipment monitoring and operational decision-making when deployed with appropriate oversight.

TGNPDCL said the awards recognise the collective efforts of its officers, engineers and employees and reaffirm its focus on technology, innovation and digital transformation in power distribution.

The company has said it intends to continue expanding the use of advanced technologies while focusing on reliable power supply and improved services for consumers.
