Hyderabad, September 15, 2026: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Monday alleged that a group of masked men attacked his Personal Assistant Mahender Reddy and Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mahesh inside the Saifabad Police Station, triggering strong political reactions and protests in Telangana.
According to KTR and BRS leaders, around 15 masked individuals entered the police station around 6:30 pm on September 14 while the two aides were being questioned. The BRS claimed the attack took place in the presence of police personnel. Party legal team members present at the station intervened, after which the attackers fled.
Background of the Case
Mahender Reddy and Mahesh had been summoned in connection with an FIR related to the September 7 incident outside the Telangana Legislative Assembly. On the first day of the monsoon session, BRS legislators had staged a protest near Gate No. 3. Police registered cases alleging obstruction of duty. The High Court had earlier directed that no coercive action be taken against the two aides while investigation continued.
KTR’s Strong Reaction
In a post on X, KTR termed the alleged incident “extremely heinous” and “reprehensible.” He questioned whether Congress workers or plainclothes police personnel were involved and held Chief Minister Revanth Reddy (who also holds the Home portfolio) responsible.
KTR demanded:
An immediate probe by a sitting judge
Preservation of all CCTV footage from inside and outside the police station
Immediate protection and medical treatment for the two aides
Identification and punishment of those responsible
BRS leaders, including T Harish Rao, accused the government of enabling “goondaism” and alleged that the aides were kept waiting for several hours.
Police Version
Khairatabad Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Shilpavalli denied the assault allegation. She stated that a group of men had come to the station seeking permission for a Ganesh Chaturthi DJ event, argued with KTR’s aides and police, and left. According to the DCP, CCTV footage did not show any assault.
Political Fallout
BRS workers gathered outside Saifabad Police Station in protest. The incident has sharpened the ongoing confrontation between the opposition BRS and the ruling Congress government in Telangana, with both sides trading accusations of political motivation and misuse of police machinery.
Authorities are expected to examine the available CCTV footage and statements from both sides. Further developments, including any official inquiry, are being closely watched.
