Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain scripted history at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, winning the gold medal in the women’s 75kg boxing category. Lovlina defeated China’s Bao Ziyi by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the final.
The victory is particularly significant as it ended India’s 12-year wait for an Asian Games women’s boxing gold medal. Lovlina also became only the second Indian woman boxer after MC Mary Kom to win Asian Games gold.
Adding to the celebrations, Lovlina secured the gold on her 29th birthday, turning the occasion into a memorable golden milestone in her boxing career. Her latest achievement upgrades the silver medal she won at the previous Asian Games.
Her historic performance has added another major chapter to India’s campaign at the Asian Games and strengthened her record on the international boxing stage.
Lovlina’s road to the final had already demonstrated her consistency and determination. She began her campaign with a convincing 5-0 unanimous-decision victory over South Korea’s Seong Suyeon in the quarter-finals. In the semi-final, she faced Kazakhstan’s reigning world champion Natalya Bogdanova and secured a hard-fought 3-2 split-decision win to book her place in the gold-medal bout.

In the final against Bao Ziyi, Lovlina stayed patient despite the Chinese boxer’s aggressive start. She relied on effective counter-punching and controlled exchanges to build her advantage. The judges ultimately awarded the bout 5-0 in her favour, confirming a historic Asian Games gold for the Indian boxer.
The gold medal adds another major achievement to Lovlina’s international career, which already includes an Olympic bronze medal. Her Asian Games triumph also ends India’s 12-year wait for a women’s boxing gold at the continental event, with Mary Kom’s 2014 title having been the previous one.
For Lovlina, the victory represents a significant turnaround from her previous Asian Games campaign. She had reached the final in Hangzhou and settled for silver after losing to China’s Li Qian. In Aichi-Nagoya, she went one step further and secured the gold medal, adding another landmark moment to Indian boxing.
Lovlina’s performance has also added to India’s medal campaign at the 2026 Asian Games. Her gold became one of the notable highlights of the boxing competition and further underlined the growing presence of Indian athletes across the tournament.
The victory will be remembered not only for the medal but also for the occasion on which it arrived — Lovlina’s birthday, a 5-0 final victory, and her first Asian Games gold medal. Her achievement gives Indian boxing another memorable
