Amit Shah Challenges Rahul Gandhi to Discuss Voter Revision and EVM Concerns in Parliament

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to participate in a parliamentary discussion on electoral issues, including the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists and Electronic Voting Machines.

Shah made the challenge during a BJP programme in Hyderabad on November 2, saying the government was ready to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the matters raised by the Opposition.

Special Session Offer Becomes Political Talking Point

Addressing supporters during the BJP’s ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ padayatra, Shah asked Gandhi to bring his concerns about the electoral process to Parliament.

The Home Minister accused the Congress leader of disrupting parliamentary proceedings while demanding discussions on issues concerning elections. He said the government was prepared to discuss the subject in a special session.

Shah Defends the Voter-List Revision Exercise

Shah defended the SIR process, arguing that the exercise was intended to identify and remove ineligible entries from electoral rolls.

He also accused the Congress and its allies of opposing the revision to protect alleged illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. These accusations were part of Shah’s political remarks and were not independently established in the cited report.

Congress leaders have raised a different set of concerns, arguing that the exercise could affect eligible voters and demanding greater transparency from the Election Commission.

EVM Debate Adds Another Dimension

The Home Minister also questioned the Congress’s criticism of EVMs. He referred to the party’s electoral victories in states including Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh, asking why the machines were questioned after defeats but accepted when Congress won.

Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would respond strongly to the Opposition during any parliamentary discussion.

BJP Criticises INDIA Bloc’s Delhi Demonstration

Shah also targeted the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. Opposition leaders had used the gathering to raise concerns about alleged vote manipulation, SIR and the Election Commission.

The Home Minister criticised the rally and accused the Opposition of defending infiltrators rather than protecting democratic institutions. Opposition parties have continued to reject the government’s position and demand answers about the voter-list revision exercise.

Electoral Questions Remain Before Political Parties

Shah’s challenge has brought the debate over voter registration, EVMs and electoral transparency back into the political spotlight.

The BJP has indicated its willingness to discuss the issues in Parliament, while the Congress and other opposition parties continue to seek action on their concerns. Whether the proposed special session takes place remains to be seen.
