Delhi Tops NITI Aayog’s India Electric Mobility Index 2025

Delhi has topped the India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) 2025 released by NITI Aayog, scoring 84 points. Maharashtra ranked second with 78 points, followed by Karnataka with 73. Chandigarh (71) and Goa (65) completed the top five.

The second edition of the index, prepared in collaboration with WRI India, evaluates the progress of states and Union Territories in building an electric mobility ecosystem. It assesses performance across three key themes: transport electrification progress, charging infrastructure readiness, and EV research and innovation

Delhi improved its score from 77 in the previous edition and retained the top position. Maharashtra also strengthened its standing (from 68 to 78), while Karnataka moved up to third place. The overall median score across states and UTs rose to 40 from 36, indicating broader progress in the sector.

In specific categories, Delhi led in transport electrification progress. Karnataka topped charging infrastructure readiness with a high score, while Delhi also performed strongly in EV research and innovation. The index highlights that only a few jurisdictions currently qualify as top performers in EV adoption, underscoring the need for continued policy support and infrastructure development.
