Brazil Football Team Arrives in Kolkata Ahead of Historic India Friendly

The Brazil football team has arrived in Kolkata ahead of its much-anticipated international friendly against India on October 3. The five-time world champions landed amid tight security as excitement grew among football fans across the city.

The match at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, popularly known as Salt Lake Stadium, will be the first-ever meeting between the senior men’s teams of Brazil and India. The fixture was officially announced by the All India Football Federation in July.

Brazil Arrives Under Heavy Security

Brazil’s squad reached Kolkata on Thursday evening, with police deploying extensive security arrangements around the airport and the team’s hotel.

The approximately 90-member Brazilian contingent was escorted from the airport in buses, while access for fans along the route was restricted. Despite the security measures, Vinícius Júnior received loud cheers from those who managed to catch a glimpse of the players.

Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior is one of the biggest names in Brazil’s squad. Midfielder Bruno Guimarães, defender Gabriel Magalhães and other established players are also part of the travelling group.

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti is scheduled to address the media before the match, while the team is set to train at Salt Lake Stadium on October 2.

Barcelona forward Raphinha, however, is not expected to feature after suffering a right-thigh injury during Brazil’s recent 4-2 victory over Australia.

Historic India vs Brazil Clash

The October 3 fixture represents a major moment for Indian football. According to the AIFF, Brazil is currently ranked fifth in the world and will be the highest-ranked opponent India has faced since the FIFA World Ranking system was introduced in 1992.

India enters the international window after drawing 1-1 with Panama on September 25. Brazil, meanwhile, comes to Kolkata after a 1-1 draw and a 4-2 win against Australia.

Kolkata Prepares for Football Spectacle

Salt Lake Stadium has undergone preparations ahead of the Brazil and Uruguay fixtures. Brazil’s match against India will be followed by India’s meeting with Uruguay on October 6.

The arrival of the Brazilian team has added to the excitement in Kolkata, a city with a long-standing passion for international football. Attention now turns to Brazil’s training session and final preparations before Saturday’s historic encounter.
